As I wrap up my courses in AI Leaders and move into roles where AI shapes decisions, I needed to understand not just how to use AI, but how WordPress—and I—should think about it.
As I looked through WordPress, I focused on its implemented and emerging features to better understand where AI has taken this platform and what the future holds. Some of the shipped features I looked at included: Abilities API — standardizes how plugins integrate AI, so features work seamlessly across the ecosystem; WordPress 7.0 AI integration — native image and text generation; and accessibility improvements — lower barriers for all users, especially those relying on assistive tech. In terms of emerging capabilities, I focused on AI agents — assistants that help users manage sites (still experimental) — and the Experiments plugin, a sandbox for testing AI possibilities. Each of these features reminded me of principles I learned in the AI Leaders courses. Specifically, agentic AI and human-in-the-loop.
These concepts are evident in WordPress’s AI integration and its plans to continue evolving it. Agentic AI is seen in the AI agent that will aid users in managing and creating their websites in a conversational manner. Human-in-the-loop appears in the Experiments plugin and accessibility improvements—WordPress monitors how AI responds and refines it quickly, rather than deploying and forgetting. The abilities APIs reflect the aim to make plug-ins accessible and easy for everyone to use.
When I started this course, AI meant one thing to me: a database for answers. Upon taking this course and using Claude to score my iterations and help me narrow down a path for continuing to develop my design, I realized AI is much more than a database. Because I was presented with a new perspective and new information about AI, I was able to adapt and change how I use and think about AI. Moving forward, I will apply this new knowledge by asking questions differently to ensure I receive an answer that guides me, rather than something given to me that I just use without trusting myself.
